Hungarian Grand Prix

2026-07-26ยท70 laps

Lando Norris claimed his first Grand Prix win of the 2026 season โ€” and his first since becoming World Champion โ€” controlling the restart at the Hungaroring to convert pole into a comfortable victory, McLaren's third consecutive win at the circuit. Pre-race three-place grid penalties for Lewis Hamilton and championship leader Kimi Antonelli (demoting them to P5 and P7) promoted Charles Leclerc to the front row and reshuffled the top of the grid, but Antonelli fought back to third by the flag, limiting the damage to his title lead. His teammate George Russell endured a torrid afternoon in seventh. Hamilton stayed glued to Antonelli's gearbox for much of the race, but a five-second penalty for pit lane speeding โ€” his fourth penalty in three race weekends โ€” dropped him behind Leclerc to fifth in the final classification. McLaren's other title contender, Oscar Piastri, had led the early stages before losing time in the second pit stop sequence after contact with Carlos Sainz, and later retired, one of three DNFs alongside Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas.
