Norris claimed his first 2026 victory and McLaren's first win of the season after a dramatic race at the Hungaroring. Piastri led from lap 1, dominating the first half until a lapped-car collision with Sainz on lap 39 handed momentum to Norris, who built a 14-second lead before Piastri's gearbox retirement on lap 56 ended McLaren's misery. A VSC triggered by Piastri's stoppage reshuffled the order: Verstappen and Antonelli stayed out to take second and third. Hamilton, who pitted three times and was briefly ahead of Antonelli on VSC exit, was judged to have not yet passed the white line — and ceded position — before a fifth penalty in three weekends (0.1 km/h pit lane speeding) dropped him from fourth to fifth. Russell recovered brilliantly from 21st after an anti-stall launch to finish seventh. Norris's win ends Mercedes' unbeaten qualifying run of 10 rounds and Antonelli still extended his championship lead.
